Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has questioned whether VAR should have intervened following William Saliba's foul on Evanilson, leading to the Gunners defender being sent off against Bournemouth.
after he was sent off by on-field referee Rob Jones against the Cherries. Saliba brought down Evanilson as the Brazilian raced through on goal and Jones initially branded the defender a yellow card. That was upgraded to a red card following a VAR review, which deemed him to have denied a clear scoring opportunity.
Ex-Gunner Seaman has questioned VAR's intervention, with the 61-year-old debating whether it a "clear and obvious error". Speaking on the podcast via , the former goalkeeper said: "The sending off, I can understand why it was given. There was a little pull. The striker made the most of it, which you're going to do when you're clean through like that. You can't do it. You can't pull them. If you run across them and they just clip their feet, a little accident on purpose, then you might get away with it. But you ain't getting away with a pull.
"My only problem with it is that the referee gave a yellow straight away. Was it a clear and obvious error?

"They’re disrespecting goalies. They say it’s a clear and obvious goalscoring opportunity – hang on, you’ve got to beat the goalie! David Raya’s a good goalie, you’ve got to get past him first. It’s not making it easy [the red cards]. There's no doubt about that. But we didn't really create after that. That was the problem.
"With no Saka, no Odegaard, and now we’re going to be going into the Liverpool game with no Saliba. We’ve got Calafiori who can play as a centre-half, and then I don’t know what the situation is with Timber, if he’s going to be fit. There’s a few there that he can choose from. We’ve got strength in depth now, on the bench, so it doesn’t worry me as much. But we’re not going to be at our strongest coming into a game against Liverpool."
