'Brilliant and witty' boy, 12, pictured after horror Royal Caribbean death plunge

A “brilliant and witty” 12-year-old has tragically died after falling from a cruise ship balcony.

Pierson 'Piers' Davis was on the Royal Caribbean ship Harmony of the Seas with his family when the accident happened on September 7. It is understood the youngster from Coloma, Michigan, in the United States, fell on the last day of a seven day Caribbean trip.

He dropped from a railing of his family’s cabin balcony on the 13th floor and landed on the Central Park plaza which was five stories below. The FBI is believed to now be investigating the incident that happened just hours before the ship was due to dock back at Galveston in Texas .

Piers was on the trip with his parents and two sisters with the family now having paid tribute to him saying he had a “heart full of love”. The obituary stated: “Our loving son, brother, grandchild, cousin and friend, Pierson ‘Piers’ A. Davis, born September 21, 2011 in Midland, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly September 7, 2024, just shy of his 13th birthday.

"He was the cherished middle child of Justin and Audra (Pierson) Davis and lived in Coloma, Michigan.” It continued: Piers was a brilliant and witty young man, wise beyond his years. He had a natural confidence and social ease, happy to be himself. Despite his age, he possessed a mature sense of gratitude and a heart full of love, never hesitating to express it.

"His mind was sharp, constantly improving his skills and knowledge, often in Pokemon, other video games and any new mystery he could strum up. As an Avid learner, he was fascinated by Mars and the mysteries of space, wanting to delve into the universe as a means to explore his philosophical thinking.

"Recently, Piers discovered a love for golf, but his true peace was found in the woods, where he could reflect and immerse in nature, this was a place he loved to sit and ponder world secrets, like how to make it a better place.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family with nearly $30,000 raised so far. In gratitude his parents said: "Thank you so much for the outpouring of love and support. There have been many decisions to make over the last several days and everything takes longer than you think it will take."
