Former star, George Baldock, has tragically been found dead in his swimming pool in Greece at the age of 31.

The shocking news has been reported by multiple Greek outlets, with an outpouring of tributes for the ex- player. It is alleged that alarm bells were raised when Baldock's wife was unable to reach him after several hours of no response.

Baldock was discovered in the pool and emergency services were summoned, with a doctor from the response unit confirming the tragic death. The defender had a seven-year stint with the Blades between 2017 and 2024, having also played for MK Dons, Northampton, and Oxford.

  • Baldock, who was eligible to play for Greece through his grandmother, made 12 appearances for the national team. Greece are set to face England at Wembley on Thursday night but Baldock was not named in the squad.

He transferred to Panathinaikos in the summer following his departure from Sheffield United. The Greek side blacked out their profile picture on social media following the tragic news.

A crowd favorite at Bramall Lane, Baldock made 219 appearances for the Blades across all competitions, netting six goals. He was instrumental in securing United's promotion from the Championship to the Premier League twice.

Baldock kickstarted his career at MK Dons, making 125 appearances for the club. In addition to Northampton and Oxford, he also had loan spells with non-league side Tamworth and Icelandic team IBV.

His elder brother Sam is also a former professional footballer.
