The 2024 Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place on Monday with the best in men's and women's football set to descend at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris to reflect on and celebrate the past year.

Regarded as the most prestigious awards showcase in the sport, nine prizes will be handed out to some of the greatest in football over the last 12 months. The men's Ballon d'Or is seen as the most coveted prize, with 30 of the best players on the planet nominated for the award.

With neither eight-time winner Lionel Messi or five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo named among the nominees for the first time since 2003, the shortlist is wide open. Jude Bellingham, Rodri and Vinicius Jr are seen as the three favourites, while four Arsenal players have been nominated.

Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Martin Odegaard are the four Arsenal players on the 30-man shortlist, with Chelsea's Cole Palmer also included following a fine breakout season. Manchester City trio Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Ruben Dias are the other Premier League players nominated.

The female prize, named the Ballon d'Or Feminin, was first awarded in 2018. Norway's Ada Hegerberg won the first award, with Megan Rapinoe following in her footsteps before Alexia Putellas became the first woman to win the accolade back-to-back. Aitana Bonmati is the holder of the award.
