Reboot of racy 90s classic finally gets release date - here's how you can watch

Scandalous, twisted and unapologetically sexy, Cruel Intentions was a smash hit when it first made its debut in 1999.

Now, Roger Kumble’s film about rich New York high schoolers - based on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos' 1782 novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses - is getting a 21st-century TV reboot.

Billed as a “ruthless new series”, Cruel Intentions is making its way to streaming with a brand new cast and setting this autumn.

The newly released official trailer invites fans back to a of “desire and deception”, promising a “new chapter” for the classic story.

The description is as follows: “Twenty-five years after the iconic film captivated audiences with its provocative drama, sex, and scandal, this series introduces a new class of cruel characters who are ready to take their games and manipulation to a whole new level.

“Whether you're a long-time fan of the film or new to the twisted tale, the series promises binge-worthy fun that audiences won't want to miss.”

The new story adaptation follows the elite students of Manchester College in Washington D.C.

At this University “reputation means everything, fraternities and sororities are the gold standard, and two ruthless step-siblings, Caroline Merteuil and Lucien Belmont, will do anything to stay on top of the cutthroat social hierarchy”.

The description goes on to read: “After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Greek Life system, they’ll do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputation – even if that means seducing Annie Grover, the daughter of the Vice President of the United States.

“Hearts will be broken, loyalties will be tested, and secrets will be revealed in this modern-day royal court that is Manchester College.”

After watching the new trailer, viewers took to the YouTube comments section to share their thoughts.

Some expressed excitement, with one writing: “I just know I'll be obsessed with this.”

Another commented: “I’m not one for the remakes but the trailer give series vibes so I’ll give it a chance.” (sic)

While a third penned: “This actually looks promising and good!!” (sic)

Meanwhile, many other fans are already comparing it to the hit 2007 teen drama series Gossip Girl, with one admitting: “I'll be watching but to be honest it's not giving cruel intentions, it's giving Gossip Girl.”

Another mused: “It just looks like Gosspi Girl. Loved the original, for 90s kids it was truly an experience, maybe today's teens will ne blown away by this.” (sic)

One more speculated: “It really does look like a Gossip Girl reboot reboot. It's giving modern day influencer rich, not old money. None of the mains stand out, especially not the male lead. But...maybe there'll be some surprises.” (sic)
