Trey Nyoni has to cap off what has been a superb few months for the teenager.
The 17-year-old has and head coach since emerging as a breakthrough star during pre-season, having joined the Reds' academy in 2023.
After making the move from Leicester City, Nyoni immediately began making a name for himself on Merseyside, scoring a late winner for the Reds’ U18s on his home debut against Everton.
Nyoni was fast-tracked to the U21s setup before going on to get the call-up to Liverpool’s senior squad. He earned a spot on the bench for the Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea in February, before being handed his senior debut by just a few days later in the FA Cup against Southampton.
Since then, the teenager has been handed more opportunities by new head coach Slot, and impressed during the Reds’ pre-season tour of the United States, featuring in games against Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United.
He would really catch the eye though when Liverpool returned to Anfield as he scored against Sevilla. This season, he has captained the Reds’ U19s in their UEFA Youth League clash with AC Milan, and was also named on the bench for the senior team against Bologna in the Champions League.
Nyoni’s performances have already, while Slot has outlined his plan for his development at Anfield.
“He is a talent but only being a talent is not enough to play on a regular basis,” Slot said earlier this season. “He needs playing time to develop and that's why sometimes you feel you might need him but you need him to play games.
“Training with the players we have helps him to develop. We have taken good care of him but he has already showed some good signs."
Liverpool.com says: A fully deserved reward for Nyoni, who has looked really impressive whenever he has been given the chance with the senior team. At just 17, there still so much room for development, which makes him such an exciting prospect, and hopefully he will follow the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones in becoming a vital part of the first-team in the future.
