The government has made a big decision in the telecom sector. The government has approved the free use of a part of the 6 GHz spectrum band without a license. This decision will have a direct impact on users across the country, especially those who use broadband and Wi-Fi services.
With this step of the government, better and faster Wi-Fi connectivity is now expected in the country. This can improve internet connectivity across the country.
The speed of the device will increase.
Till now Wi-Fi services were available on 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, which give a maximum speed of 1.3 Gbps. But with the availability of a 6GHz band, this speed can increase to 9.6 Gbps. Users should just have routers and devices that support it.
A router upgrade is necessary for new technology.
However, to take advantage of this facility, users will have to upgrade their existing Wi-Fi router. Only those devices will be able to take advantage of high-speed internet, which supports next-generation technology like WiFi 6E or WiFi 7.
India is also included in the list of 84 countries.
With this decision of the government, India has now joined the list of more than 84 countries that have already opened the 6GHz band for unlicensed use. Countries like America, Britain, South Korea, and Japan are already included in this list.
According to the report, TRAI had recommended opening this spectrum about two years ago, which has now been approved.
Telecom companies' displeasure
However, telecom operators are not fully satisfied with this decision. Companies like Jio, Airtel, and Vi believe that they should have the entire 6GHz band so that they can use it to expand 4G and 5G networks.
Not only this, this step can prove to be a profitable deal for tech companies like Google, Meta and Qualcomm. Because they will now be able to easily bring devices and software supporting high-speed Wi-Fi to India.
