British Airways has introduced a 'Student Travel Assistance' service for Indian students travelling to London Heathrow from five Indian cities this summer. The service will be available until the end of October 2025 to ease the travel experience for students beginning their academic sessions in the UK.
The airline, in its official statement, said that the initiative is the first of its kind, with benefits such as a dedicated check-in desk at departure airports, wayfinding support through terminals, and guidance for transfers on arrival at Heathrow Terminal 5.
The service is open to students flying from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai, where the airline operates 56 weekly flights.
“We are proud to fly thousands of students around the world, ready for them to embark on their next adventure, and for some students, this is the first time they are travelling overseas. Our teams across both sides of the globe have worked incredibly hard to introduce our first-ever ‘Student Travel Assistance’ service, offering dedicated support to make every journey for students as seamless and reassuring as possible. We hope this makes them feel at ease from the moment they arrive to when they land in their destination, and we look forward to welcoming them on board," said Helen O’Connor, Regional General Manager, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific Airport at British Airways.
The airline also added that the new service is introduced at a time when international student mobility from India is rising.
Data from India’s Ministry of External Affairs showed that as of January 2024, more than 1.33 million Indian students were enrolled in higher education abroad, with the UK continuing to be a preferred destination due to its academic and cultural linkages.
Earlier this year, British Airways launched a ‘Meet and Assist’ service for Indian travellers requiring additional help at airports, including support in local languages. The airline said the student-specific service aligns with its wider investment strategy covering airport facilities, digital tools, and onboard offerings.
