Chennai man's high-speed reverse drive lands him at police station, his reason only made things worse

Send Push
A 25-year-old man’s attempt to show off in front of his newlywed wife turned into a brush with the law on Friday morning near Marina Beach in Chennai.

As reported by TOI, Abhishek, a resident of Mylapore, took things a bit too far when he drove his car in reverse at high speed along Kamarajar Salai near Vivekananda Illam around 7am. His stunt did not go unnoticed, as he caught the attention of Constable Selvam, who was patrolling the area.

When the constable tried to stop him, Abhishek reportedly swerved through a tight lane near the Avvaiyar statue and managed to flee the scene, rejoining the main road and disappearing into traffic. His dangerous move posed a serious risk to both pedestrians and fellow drivers.

Police later tracked down the vehicle and summoned Abhishek to the station. He showed up the next day, accompanied by his wife and a lawyer. During questioning, he confessed to the offence and explained that he was only trying to entertain his wife with a ‘fun stunt’.

The police weren’t amused. They asked Abhishek to hand over the vehicle, his driving licence, and all related documents. Further legal action is being considered, and the incident has once again highlighted the dangers of reckless driving, whether done for fun, fame, or love.
