Srinagar | New Delhi: J&K Police and Punjab Police on Wednesday said that a multi-layered security has been put in place for smooth conduct of Amarnath yatra starting from July 3. They said a smooth yatra is not possible without the help and cooperation of locals in Kashmir Valley. Punjab Police has deployed nearly 900 policemen on Amarnath yatra route in wake of intelligence inputs, according to Punjab Police.
Inspector General of Police in Kashmir VK Birdi visited the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam in Anantnag district on Wednesday which is one of the two routes for the yatra. The other route of the yatra is from Baltal in Sonamarg area of central Kashmir. During his visit, Birdi told reporters that multi-layered and in-depth security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a safe and smooth yatra. The duration of the yatra has now been reduced to 38 days from 52 days in 2024. The yatra period this year will be from July 3 to August 9.
"Amarnath yatra is starting from next week. This year, security forces and other agencies have put in place multi-layered and in-depth security arrangements to make the yatra smooth," Birdi told reporters here.
