Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday took aim at RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav during a public rally in Karakat, Bihar, saying that the state was once plagued by “jungle raaj” where the rights of the poor were trampled and land was snatched from the powerless.
“Earlier, people’s land was taken away. The poor were stripped of their rights. Jungle raaj had made life unbearable in Bihar,” said Modi, invoking memories of Lalu Prasad's tenure to contrast it with the NDA government’s focus on law and order and infrastructure.
Lalu, a former Railway Minister and ex-chief minister of Bihar, has long faced criticism for alleged corruption and misrule during his party’s time in power — a narrative the BJP is bringing back ahead of the 2025 Bihar assembly polls.
‘Naxal-hit villages now see roads, schools and mobile towers’
Modi said naxalism once affected at least 125 villages in Bihar and claimed his government has since brought safety and development to these regions.
“A few years ago, naxalism was on the rise. There were no hospitals, schools or even mobile towers in those areas. Now, those same places are seeing progress,” he said.
He added that Bihar is now witnessing a “new era of governance” marked by better infrastructure and connectivity.
The Prime Minister also listed achievements in infrastructure and electrification.
“We fulfilled our promise to enhance the Patna terminal. Vande Bharat trains are running across Bihar. Electricity consumption in the state has increased four times,” he said.
Modi salutes BSF martyr from Bihar
During his address, Modi paid tribute to BSF sub-inspector Mohammed Imteyaz, a native of Bihar who was martyred in Operation Sindoor.
“Thousands of Biharis are serving in our armed forces. BSF jawans are the epitome of strength. I salute Mohammed Imteyaz who laid down his life for the country,” he said.
‘I vowed from this very soil to avenge Pahalgam — and I kept my promise’
Speaking on national security, the Prime Minister recalled the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
“Innocent people were killed in Pahalgam. A day later, I vowed from this very soil that I would avenge the massacre. Now that I’ve returned to Bihar, I return after fulfilling that promise,” Modi said.
He said Indian forces “turned to rubble the infrastructure of the terrorists responsible for wiping the sindoor off our sisters’ foreheads” and added, “We brought Pakistan’s army to its knees and destroyed their air force bases within minutes.”
India's fight against terrorism, he said, “has not stopped, and will never pause.”
