Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday disapproved of the attempts to give a language colour to an otherwise road rage incident in Bengaluru involving an IAF officer couple that sought to show local Kannadigas in poor light.
Siddaramaiah strongly defended his fellow Kannadigas and became angry after learning that the IAF officer Shiladitya Bose dragged the language issue into his personal fight with a biker. Bose not only assaulted local youth Vikas Kumar but projected himself as a victim by making critical comments about Kannadigas on social media. “Kannadigas are proud of their language. They are not small people to abuse others over language,” the CM said in a statement, while condemning Bose for his comments on Kannadigas on social media.
It was the culture of Kannadigas to see everyone living in Karnataka as their own, the CM said. He also ordered the Bengaluru City Police to take tough action in the road rage incident and deliver justice to victims.
A video clipping of Bose narrating the incident with his bleeding face went viral prompting angry reactions on social media. He was on his way to the airport with wife Madhumita Dutta, also an IAF officer, when an altercation broke out between him and biker Vikas leading to an alleged physical fight.
The Byappanahalli Police on Tuesday booked a case against Bose for assaulting the biker Vikas after analyzing the CCTV footage from the scene of road rage incident. They had arrested Vikas Kumar on Monday, prompting Kannada organisations to pledge their support to him.
The CM’s sharp comments on the incident followed a flood of reactions on social media portraying sections of Kannadigas as being intolerant towards outsiders after Bose twisted the incident, projecting it as the one born out of a Kannadiga vs outsider fight.
The comments had put the state government on the defensive after Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi too said Karnataka had become lawless under the Congress.
