A grand procession will be organized in Panvel on April 14 to celebrate Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, with the combined efforts of the Municipal Corporation and public participation. A planning meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner and Administrator Mangesh Chitale to finalize the event's arrangements.
During the meeting, detailed plans were discussed for the procession, cultural programs, student competitions, security arrangements, cleanliness, and other facilities. Deputy Commissioner Kailas Gawde assured that special arrangements, including ambulances, drinking water, refreshments, energy drinks, security personnel, lighting, and sanitation, will be in place.
Following the procession, the foundation stone for the renovation of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan will be laid, along with the unveiling of the Preamble of the Indian Constitution at the entrance of the Municipal Corporation headquarters. To mark the occasion, various competitions such as elocution, essay writing, tableaux, lezim performances, and slogan contests will be held for school students, with participants receiving certificates and mementos. The city will be adorned with banners, flex posters, and decorative lighting, with special security measures implemented along the route.
During the meeting, former corporator Prakash Binedar proposed a resolution appreciating the Municipal Corporation and Commissioner Mangesh Chitale for their proactive efforts in organizing the Jayanti celebrations and addressing related demands. The resolution was unanimously passed, with Binedar expressing satisfaction and gratitude for the civic body’s initiatives.
The Jayanti celebrations will commence at 7:00 AM, with citizens gathering at the full-sized statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. A floral tribute and ceremonial prayers will take place at 7:30 AM, followed by the grand procession, which will pass through Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, MTNL Road, Sant Jagnade Maharaj Chowk, Rohidas Wada, Tapal Naka, Karnala Circle, Vegetable Market, Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil Chowk, Virupaksha Temple, Line Ali, and Gune Hospital Road, before concluding at Ambedkar Bhavan.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioners Bharat Rathod and Ganesh Shete, former Mayor Kavita Choutmol, former corporators Prakash Binedar, Charushila Gharat, Darshana Bhoir, and Ganesh Kadu, along with Shiv Sena District Chief Ramdas Shewale, various organization representatives, Deputy Commissioners Kailas Gawde, Dr. Vaibhav Vidhate, Prasenjit Karlekar, and Ravikiran Ghodke. Also present were Assistant Police Commissioner Ashok Rajput, City Engineer Sanjay Katekar, Chief Public Relations Officer Dr. Raju Patodkar, police officers, and municipal staff.
