Palghar, Maharashtra: In a significant move against illegal firearms, the Crime Branch Unit-2 of Vasai has arrested a 23-year-old man in Nalasopara (East) for possessing a country-made pistol and a live cartridge. Authorities believe he intended to use the weapon to intimidate people in the area.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of officers laid a trap near the Maa Vindhyavasini Mandir open ground on May 30, 2025, at approximately 8:43 pm. They successfully apprehended the suspect, Shubham Kumar Rajnath Tiwari, a local resident, originally from Lalpur village, Varanasi District, Uttar Pradesh. A search of his blue bag uncovered the illegal firearm and ammunition, valued at ₹45,400.
A case has been registered against him at Pelhar Police Station under IPC Section 3 and 25(1B)(a) of the Arms Act and Section 37(1)/135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Police Commissioner Shri Madhukar Pandey, Additional Commissioner Shri Dattatray Shinde, DCP (Crime) Shri Avinash Ambure, and ACP (Crime) Shri Madan Ballal.
The arrest team was led by Police Inspector Sameer Ahirrao and included Sub-Inspectors Sopan Patil, Sagar Shinde, PSI Ajit Gite, and other dedicated officers and personnel from Crime Branch Unit-2, Vasai, and the Cyber Cell.
Authorities have commended the team for their swift and professional action, reiterating the police’s commitment to ensuring public safety and eliminating illegal arms from the region.
