Mumbai: In a major crackdown, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police has seized mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 10.07 crore from different parts of the city, including Malad, Jogeshwari, Dadar, and Dongri. A total of five accused have been arrested in connection with these seizures.
Jogeshwari Operation Yields MD Worth ₹2.55 Crore
According to ANC officials, the first bust occurred on July 28, when the Ghatkopar Unit, while patrolling in Jogeshwari West, arrested a suspect and recovered 504 grams of MD drugs from his possession.
Following his interrogation, his associate was also nabbed, with 518 grams of MD found on him. This two-part operation led to the seizure of narcotics worth Rs 2.55 crore.
Malad East Raid Uncovers ₹1.91 Crore in MD Drugs
In a second operation on August 7, the Bandra Unit, acting on a tip-off, raided Pathanwadi in Malad East and arrested a man selling MD drugs. A total of 766 grams of MD, valued at Rs 1.91 crore, was recovered.
In the third operation, the Worli Unit arrested another suspect in Dadar West on August 7 and seized 690 grams of MD drugs worth Rs 1.72 crore. The most significant arrest came during an ongoing investigation by the Bandra Unit, which led to the capture of a Nigerian national from the MIDC area of Navi Mumbai. From his possession, MD drugs worth Ra 2.56 crore were seized. Further investigation in this case led to the total recovery of narcotics valued at Rs 3.89 crore and the arrest of two suspects.
