Quick service restaurant (QSR) brand Wow! Momo has roped in software veteran Nimish Chaudhary as chief technology officer (CTO) to oversee the development of its in-house foodtech platform.
In his new role, Chaudhary will spearhead the development of the QSR unicorn’s in-house foodtech enterprise platform, which will power the startup’s current and future business lines, including its planned overseas operations.
Additionally, he will take charge of developing the startup’s Wow! Eats app to boost customer experience. Chaudhary will also focus on modernising store technology and optimising operational efficiency in the startup’s expanding networks.
In January last year, Wow! Momo rolled out its food ordering app, letting users choose dishes from its menu.
It is pertinent to note that the startup, like many in the QSR space, relies heavily on foodtech majors such as Zomato and Swiggy for deliveries.
Chaudhary, in his earlier stint as the vice president of engineering at Jubilant FoodWorks, helped shape the company’s foodtech platform and played a key role in developing its in-house Android-based point of sale (POS) system.
With 18 years of experience, Chaudhary has served at companies like Cisco Systems and Publicis Sapient.
From QSR To FMCG: Wow! Momo’s Growth GameWow! Momo is working on strengthening its in-house foodtech capabilities while also doubling down on its omnichannel strategy and growing FMCG portfolio, which includes frozen momos, cuppa noodles, thukpa and coconut water. The startup also plans to ramp up its dine-in offering. To fuel these initiatives, it raised INR 85 Cr in debt from Stride Ventures this June.
Initially, it was reported that the Kolkata-based startup is planning to raise about INR 150 Cr from the likes of Haldiram’s promoter Kamal Agrawal and Malaysia’s wealth fund Khazanah Nasional.
On the financial front, the QSR’s net loss remained almost flat, climbing just 0.53% to INR 114.4 Cr in FY24. Meanwhile, its operating revenue rose 13.83% to INR 470 Cr during the year under review from INR 412.9 Cr in FY23.
In FY24, the startup’s Wow! Chicken was the biggest contributor to the overall topline, translating to 55% of the revenue share, followed by Wow !Momo with 35%.
Last year the QSR chain said that it expects to cross the INR 600 Cr mark in revenues in FY25. The startup is yet to file its FY25 results.
Wow! Momo aims to go public in FY27 once it touches the INR 1,000 Cr revenue mark.
