A disturbing case has emerged from the Faridpur area in Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh, where a man has been arrested for allegedly using a false identity to befriend a BA student and later sexually assault her at a hotel. The accused, identified as Asif Qureshi, reportedly posed as "Ashish" while communicating with the student on social media.
According to police sources, the accused befriended the student online and introduced himself under a fake name. As trust grew between the two, he allegedly invited her to meet in person and took her to a hotel, where the assault occurred.
The victim later became suspicious about the man’s identity and conducted her own inquiry, which revealed that he had misled her about his real name. Upon discovering the truth, she filed a complaint at Faridpur police station.
The police acted swiftly, locating and arresting the accused from a hotel on the highway. During the arrest, officers recovered a forged Aadhaar card used by the accused to support his fake identity. Asif reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections pertaining to rape, cheating, impersonation, and possession of forged documents. Authorities are also investigating whether the accused has committed similar acts with others using the same modus operandi.
CO Ashutosh Shivam stated that the investigation is ongoing and further legal action will be taken based on evidence and testimonies.
