Destination Xhad TV viewers gripping their seats once more on Thursday (21 August), as another contestant was booted off the BBC show.

Claire became the latest hopeful to get the chop, having failed to correctly identify the location as Pisa, Italy.

She just missed out on securing her place in the semi-final, leaving Daren, Judith, Josh and Saskia as the remaining contestants.

"I was well wrong, no wonder I'm here! This game is so hard. Thinking back to the clues, I still can't see anything that would match anything to do with this," Claire said after she stepped off the bus to see the Tower of Pisa before her.

Looking back on her Destination X adventure, she added: "But, what an experience. What a brilliant experience! I've learnt a lot about myself, met some fabulous people, who will be friends forever. It's an experience I'm always going to draw upon. I was convinced I was going to win!"

Viewers at home were left devastated by Claire's departure and with the finale approaching, many started speculating who will be crowned champion of the BBC series, reports the Manchester Evening News.

"NOOOOO this elimination is so horrible I've had ENOUGH," one fan moaned on X, with a second saying: "That's a shame, I liked Claire. Darren must win now.

"#DestinationX has been class. Edge of the seat stuff. Come on Daren," a third wrote. Another added: "Is Daren actually gonna win this on a wing and a prayer???"

Scores of fans seemed to concur that Daren could be the deserving champion, with one viewer exclaiming: "daren for the win!!!!! #DestinationX," and another chiming in: "Judith or Daren to win, otherwise we're rioting. #DestinationX."

Daren confessed that he'd managed to cling on in the competition by sheer luck, having made a random guess about the location after being left baffled by the clues.

"I'm feeling very lucky to survive the elimination. Come on, you cabbies!" he declared, following his co-star Claire's departure.

He went on to explain to Josh, Saskia and Judith how he'd been given a clue and shared it with Claire, leaving both Josh and Saskia let down. Josh confessed his alliance with Daren was now finished, after he chose Claire over him.

Destination X continues on Wednesday on BBC One at 9pm.
