Long Story Short is an adult animated comedy series about one family, over time. What really sets the series apart is that these key events in the Schwooper family is not told chronologically.

Instead, viewers will be taken back and forth through time, jumping through the years, following the siblings from childhood, through to teenage angst to adulthood and back again.

There will even be stops to check in on moments from their parents' lives when they were younger. It will all help in chronicling their triumphs, disappointments, joys, and compromises.

Why should you watch Long Story Short?

The show is created by writer, comedian and voice actor Raphael Matthew Bob-Waksberg. He is probably best known as the creator of celebrated Netflix series Bojack Horseman.

Those who enjoyed that show should be well placed to fall in love with Long Story Short. The series is expected to carry just as much of an emotive punch, albeit without humanoid animal characters.

Bojack Horseman ran for six seasons and followed a humanoid horse, once the star of a 90s sitcom and now lost in a sea of self-loathing and booze but decides it's time for a comeback. It boasts an overall rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It has set a high expectation for Long Story Short, which it actually could well meet. As one fan said of Bojack: "One of the best animated shows with a spectacular story that makes you fall in love with every character and feel for them as they change. Sad to hear about the early cancellation but the ending doesn't suffer for it at all. Best show on Netflix"

Who is in the cast of Long Story Short?

Long Story Short's cast list is stacked with recognisable voices from film and television, predominately those known for their comedy chops. That includes the main cast and guest stars set to make brief appearances in the odd episode.

  • Paul Reiser, known for roles in Stranger Things and Curb Your Enthusiasm as Elliot.

Amazingly, well ahead of its Netflix debut, the series has already been renewed by the company for a second season. This is quite the achievement for any show, as some of the most popular titles among fans still await to find out their fate.

Talking to website Tudum about the news, show creator Bob-Waksberg cheekily said: "Wow! A Season 2?! And Season one hasn’t even come out yet! It must be a REALLY good show. I can’t wait to watch it when it premieres on Netflix, Friday, Aug. 22! Let’s all do that!”
