Newsboy's horseracing tips for Friday's five meetings, including Haydock Nap

TRILBY is fancied to get back to winning ways by beating seven rivals for the Weatherbys Stallion Book Handicap (3.30) at Haydock on Friday.

The Sam England-trained son of Twilight Son drew a blank from his first two campaigns but is a three-time winner in 2024 - each of the trio coming with plenty of give in the ground.

They have also come at six furlongs, but there is every reason to think Trilby can get his head in front over five furlongs judged on a second to Vince L’Amour over the minimum trip at York a week ago.

Anchored at the rear of the 17-runner field, Trilby came home with gusto to take a length-and-a-quarter second to the Tim Easterby-saddled winner, who made all the running.

That run was in a 0-95 handicap and my selection competes from the same rating of 78 as he lowers his sights to 0-80 company.

At Newcastle, BARLEYBROWN gets the vote to give a good account in the Northumbria Leisure For Juke Boxes Apprentice Handicap (8.00).

The four-year-old is a three-time course-and-distance winner this season and a 5lb rise for a two-length supremacy from Strangerontheshore at Gosforth Park last time out looks within range.
