The resignation of French Prime Minister Locornu is a major blow to President Emmanuel Macron. Locornu is considered a close ally of Macron. His resignation comes at a time when the budget issue is raging in France. Locornu's resignation comes after he failed to resolve the impasse.
French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has resigned within a month. Lecornu resigned after failing to present a budget and facing political deadlock. Lecornu's resignation sent the Paris Stock Exchange down 1.7 percent.
According to a report by France 24, Locornu resigned just hours after the cabinet was formed. Opposition parties had also tabled a no-confidence motion against Locornu in Parliament, which he failed to defeat.
According to reports, a cabinet meeting was called after the cabinet formation, but Lokornu resigned before the meeting. Lokornu had feared that he would no longer be accepted in Parliament. He decided to resign to avoid embarrassment.

Macron appointed Locornu as Prime Minister about a month ago, but opposition parties began protesting his appointment. Locornu faced opposition for two main reasons.
1. When general elections were held in 2024, no party won a majority, but President Macron appointed his close associates to the prime ministerial post. In this sequence, France Bayrou was appointed PM. At the time, Macron was accused of violating the constitution to favor his close associates. However, Bayrou did not remain in office for long. Lecornu was given the PM's post. Lecornu also failed to gain the confidence of the House.
2. France's economic situation is dire. The government's debt is steadily increasing. People are protesting to eliminate it. The government proposed budget cuts, which the public strongly opposed. Passing this budget in the House of Representatives will be difficult. Bayrou failed to get it passed. Now, Locornu has backtracked on this issue.
Question: What will happen next? The Rally group holds the largest number of seats in the French House of Representatives. President Macron can, through the Constitution, invite this party to form a government, as the previous two experiences have been disastrous. Macron will remain President of France until 2027.
However, The Rally group has demanded the immediate dissolution of the National Assembly. The group demands that the government hold fresh elections. The French National Assembly has 577 seats, and a minimum of 279 seats are required to form a government.
