AAP Demands Govt Housing Facility for Arvind Kejriwal Post Resignation

Send Push

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is advocating for government housing for outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arguing that he deserves this due to his position as the national convener of a recognized national party. AAP leaders are reaching out to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for a swift resolution.

At a press conference, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha announced that the party would formally request the ministry’s assistance, hoping for a solution within the next couple of days.

Kejriwal, who resigned earlier this week, must vacate his official residence within 15 days. Chadha highlighted that every national party should have office space and housing for its leader in Delhi.

Following the 2022 Gujarat assembly elections, AAP achieved national party status. After a long struggle, the party was only recently granted office space by the Centre, thanks to court intervention. Chadha urged the government to follow regulations impartially and provide Kejriwal with the accommodation he is entitled to.

He noted that leaders from other national parties, such as BJP's JP Nadda and Congress's Mallikarjun Kharge, already benefit from similar housing. AAP’s national secretary is set to send a letter to the Ministry, advocating for a decision that is free from political bias.

Chadha also expressed hope that AAP would not need to engage in legal disputes to secure this entitlement. After the new chief minister is sworn in, Kejriwal will forfeit all official benefits, and Chadha emphasized that Kejriwal lacks personal property or a private residence, reiterating the Centre's responsibility to provide him with accommodation.
