Does reducing the speed of the fan reduce the bill?

Send Push

Often people have the notion that keeping the fan speed low will reduce the electricity bill. But is this really possible? Let's know about this in detail.  It is believed that reducing the speed of the fan will reduce electricity consumption. But in reality, the fan runs on an electric motor, and when we reduce the speed, we only tell the motor to run slower. This does not mean that the motor will use less electricity at a lower speed.

Difference between old and new fans: Old fans have mechanical regulators to control speed. These regulators increase the resistance in the motor to reduce the speed of the fan, which can save some electricity. However, this saving is not much. On the other hand, new fans have electronic regulators that directly control the speed of the fan. The specialty of these regulators is that there is not much difference in power consumption even at low speed. In some cases, power consumption may also increase a little because the regulator also consumes electricity in its process.

Importance of energy-efficient fans: Nowadays, energy-efficient fans are available in the market, which use less electricity. Running them at low speed can save some electricity. Using these fans can prove to be more beneficial because they consume less energy than normal fans.

Difference in power consumption between big and small fans: Another thing to note is that big fans use more power, while small fans consume relatively less power. If the room is big, then a big fan is needed, which increases power consumption.

Does running on low speed really save electricity?: Running the fan on low speed may save some electricity, but the savings are negligible. If you really want to save electricity, run the fan only when there is someone in the room and use more energy-efficient fans.
