Kate Winslet Turns 49: Plans to Spend the Year Doing 50 Remarkable Things

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet, who celebrates her 49th birthday, has shared that she’s not interested in a grand party. Instead, she wants to spend the year engaging in 50 “remarkable” activities.

“I don’t like big parties, and I can’t stand surprises. I want to spend the year doing 50 remarkable things, whether it’s a hike I’ve never done or visiting a new place or even acts of kindness — I’m making a little list,” she said.

Known for her iconic role in Titanic, Winslet has had a celebrated career. She shares three children: Mia, 23, with her first husband Jim Threapleton, Joe, 20, with her second husband Sam Mendes, and Bear, 10, with Edward Abel Smith.

As one of Hollywood's most prominent stars, Winslet believes that women should embrace their achievements with pride. "The pride I feel is enormous for what I’ve accomplished. It’s important to be able to say, ‘I’m proud of myself,’ and not feel like we’re boasting. Women should stand tall and acknowledge their efforts," she said.

She also touched upon the double standards that exist between male and female actors, recalling an incident where a crew member advised her to hide her “belly rolls” during a scene. Winslet pushed back, dismissing praise that labeled her reaction as “brave.”

During a recent interview, she reflected on these gender biases. “I quite like making statements. Life is too short to shy away,” she said. Winslet questioned why male actors aren't subjected to the same scrutiny as women. "Do we ever ask men how they juggle being a father and having a career? We need to change this dynamic."
