French President Emmanuel Macron has urged for the release of hostages still held by Hamas, following the elimination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who was identified as the mastermind behind the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel.

In a post shared on social media, Macron described Sinwar as the "main person" responsible for the violent attacks that took place on October 7. "Yahya Sinwar was the main person responsible for the terrorist attacks and barbaric acts of October 7th," Macron wrote. He added, "Today, I think about the victims, including 48 of our compatriots, and their families. France demands the release of all hostages still held by Hamas."

US President Joe Biden also commented on Sinwar’s death, calling it a positive development for both Israel and the world. Biden emphasized that the elimination of the attack's mastermind proves that terrorists "cannot escape justice, no matter how long it takes."

Biden also drew parallels between this event and the killing of Osama Bin Laden, recalling how the United States felt a similar sense of relief after the successful operation ordered by President Obama in 2011.

Israel confirmed the killing of Yahya Sinwar, who played a central role in organizing the deadly attacks that saw approximately 2,500 Hamas militants cross into Israeli territory. The attacks resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 people, including citizens from more than 30 countries, and the capture of more than 250 hostages.

In response, Israel launched a counter-offensive against Hamas, reiterating its intent to dismantle the group while attempting to limit harm to civilians.
