NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday to discuss a range of topics aimed at enhancing the strategic relationship between India and Germany. The meeting took place at Modi's official residence, where the two leaders exchanged ideas on crucial areas such as defense, trade, and clean energy.

Chancellor Scholz arrived in New Delhi late Thursday for his three-day official visit, which runs from October 24 to 26, at the invitation of Modi. He was welcomed by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai.

During their discussions, Modi and Scholz are set to hold comprehensive talks, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in defense, trade, and clean energy initiatives. They will also co-chair the seventh Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC) at Hyderabad House.

The IGC serves as a collaborative platform where ministers from both nations engage in discussions relevant to their areas of expertise. The outcomes of these discussions are then reported to the Prime Minister of India and the Chancellor of Germany. This biannual event helps facilitate cooperation and dialogue between the two governments. The previous IGC took place in Berlin in May 2022, during which both leaders agreed to establish the German-Indian Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP).
