Arsenal have reportedly reignited talks with Atalanta over a deal for Ademola Lookman. Mikel Arteta's side are keen to bolster their attacking ranks this summer, and they have turned their attention back to a former target.
The Gunners are in the market for reinforcements at both ends of the pitch, with a new No. 9 on the shopping list and negotiations ongoing with Valencia for Cristhian Mosquera. Kepa is also expected to arrive from Chelsea after his £5million release clause was activated.
Arsenal are also keen to sign a new winger who can provide an option on either flank, and they appear to have settled on Lookman. CaughtOffside report that the Gunners are back in talks with Atalanta for the Nigeria international.
The Gunners have pushed for Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams previously, but the Spaniard is favouring a move for Barcelona. Newcastle star Anthony Gordon and Real Madrid forward Rodrygo are both also admired, but Lookman has now emerged as the likeliest candidate.
Atalanta are demanding at least £38.4million for the 27-year-old, plus add-ons. Such a fee is not out of reach for the Gunners, though it remains to be seen whether they attempt to strike an agreement for a lesser amount.
A host of Premier League clubs have been credited with holding an interest in Lookman previously though, and therefore Arteta's side may look to get a deal over the line sooner rather than later in anticipation of any hijack attempts.
Lookman is capable of playing on either wing, as well as a No. 10. The playmaker is also capable of playing as a makeshift No. 9, which could be music to the ears of the higher powers at the Emirates Stadium given that Arsenal's search for a striker has proven fruitless so far.
The forward has enjoyed stints in the Premier League with Leicester City, Fulham and Everton, but he has failed to truly make his mark on the English top-flight and may feel that a move to north London can help him right the wrongs of his previous spells.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal look to table an offer in the coming days or continue to keep all of their options open, given that they have looked at alternative options previously.
