The beloved Beyond Paradise series might be gearing up to bid farewell to a fan-favourite character after a concerning health scare surfaced in Friday's episode. The show saw Anne Lloyd (Barbara Flynn) become increasingly alarmed upon discovering an unusual mole on her back.
In a moment of concern, while examining the mole, Anne was surprised by Zoe (Melina Sinadinou), who inquired about what she'd found. "I had one of those," Zoe shared with an unnerved Anne. "That's what it is, isn't it? A dodgy mole?"
Caught off guard, Anne queried, "Where on earth did you come from?" only for Zoe to respond: "Sorry, Martha asked me to drop these off. Homemade fish fingers for little Rosie."
Continuing, Zoe probed if Anne had met Rosie yet and learned that Martha wanted the foster child to settle in before introductions. The conversation quickly pivots back to the mole, with Zoe suggesting: "Anyway, it is bad if it is crusty or changes shape, I think. Sorry, I didn't mean to pry," reports .
Anne tried to brush it off with laughter, saying, "It's alright, I am sure it is nothing," leading Zoe to offer help which Anne declines.
Nevertheless, Zoe insisted on getting it checked, advising, "You should get someone to look at it though, someone who knows what they are looking for."
With the newest series currently airing, the actress behind Anne shed light on her character's delicate situation, explaining: "At the end of the previous series, Anne was in a very tender and vulnerable place. She had experienced a terrible betrayal and a profound loss of trust."
Looking forward, she reveals Anne's coping mechanism: "In this new series, she's busy trying to move on with her life in a very focused and solitary way, throwing herself into tasks to keep going. Then, out of nowhere, a bombshell hits. It's a shock.
"The issue is deeply private for her, but it ends up intertwined with her charming relationship with Zoe. It's not exactly a grandmother-granddaughter relationship but more of a unique, evolving friendship.
"Instead of confiding in Martha, who Anne feels reluctant to burden, Zoe manages to draw it out of her in her direct, youthful, clumsy, yet completely adorable way.
"Anne is, in a way, forced to take action because of Zoe's persistence. She likely would have done something eventually, but Zoe's involvement gives her a push to act sooner."
The next instalment of Beyond Paradise, set to return next week, teases some thrilling developments in episode three: "A chocolatier falls under suspicion when three customers are poisoned after sampling her wares and Humphrey must explore every avenue to determine whether she orchestrated the attack or was framed.
"The mystery deepens as the team finds no trace of poison in the remaining chocolates and wonder how the perpetrator ensured the victims ate the right one. With public panic spreading across Shipton Abbott, the officers must work swiftly to uncover the culprit."
Beyond Paradise returns on Friday at 8pm on BBC One.
