After an epic journey through China, Nepal, and India, the intrepid pairs from this year's Race Across the World gathered to share their adventures. In a nail-biting contest that saw leadership change hands multiple times, it was the mother-son team Caroline and Tom who ultimately grabbed the glory. Reflecting on their adventure, brothers Brian and Melvyn confessed to having deceived their fellow racers, reports Plymouth Live.

The mischievous duo admitted they had spun a few fibs to make others think they were lagging behind. At the reunion, Letitia pointed out how the brothers often claimed to be strapped for cash, prompting Brian to confess: "We did tell a few porky pies didn't we?"

Melvyn elaborated to the audience, saying, "The other teams would come into checkpoint and they'd say, 'Well, how do you think you're doing?' and we'd say, 'God, that was an expensive leg.'"

Footage from the race showed Caroline and Tom fretting over their spending, while Melvyn pretended they were in the same boat.

Brian cautioned his brother, "Don't tell them that!" but later he himself suggested they were "lucky to be able to eat" as their funds ran low.

"We've only got 15% left, haven't we?" Melvyn chimed in during the race. Back at the reunion, Brian hinted that everyone might have stretched the truth a bit, but Sioned countered firmly: "I didn't."

A surprised Melvyn questioned: "So we were the only ones who were bulling?"

In a particularly revealing part of the episode, Sioned and Fin, the youngest contenders in the competition, shared that their romance remains solid despite the trials faced during the race.

Sioned disclosed: "I think there were many times in India where I thought, 'I can't do this, I need to go home, not want to but I need to because this is too much.'"

She continued: "But, I'm really glad I just stuck it out because experiencing it has been really valuable."

Fin contributed his perspective: "It was a good way to see if we can do it forever, or this isn't for us, let's split up. But that wasn't the case, we are still together, and we're going well. I think that was a big challenge and the best challenge we could've had together."

Race Across the World is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
