Strictly's admitted he used to have weekly dance lessons in a resurfaced video despite recently telling a fan he'd never had any training
At the start of his Strictly Come Dancing journey, opera singer Wynne Evans was doubtful about his chances at lifting the coveted Glitterball trophy.
In his opening VT, he chuckled: "I am honestly still pinching myself. A portly balding opera singer, me, taking part in Strictly Come Dancing?!
"I'm not entirely sure how I'll get along, if all else fails I'll just have to learn the art of distraction."
Since then, the star is one week away from performing in Blackpool after hours of exhausting, sweaty rehearsals and a string of live shows with his professional dance partner Katya Jones.
It's fair to say the singer has surpassed even his own expectations after consistently receiving respectable scores from the judges each week. The BBC Radio Wales presenter's loyal followers regularly take to Instagram to praise his efforts too.
In a recent Q&A with his loyal legion of fans, Wynne answered some of their burning questions when one asked if this was the first time he'd had dance lessons.
According to , they asked: "Have you had any previous dance training? You are amazing. Welsh love." Wynne replied: "I love the fact that you thought you should ask. Erm no training at all, ever, ever."
But despite his denial, the star has been seen admitting that he used to have ballroom lessons "every week" in an unearthed video.
Talking to cookery channel in a YouTube video, the Celebrity Masterchef winner 2023 was discussing his love of food and where it came from when he shared the surprising revelation.
He told the hosts: "My mother was petrified that we were gonna become butch rugby players. So she sent me for cookery lessons and ballroom dancing from about the age of seven. So, every week we'd go to cookery, outside of school, every week we'd go dancing."
A spokesperson for Wynne later told the publication: "Like so many of us in childhood, Wynne had a small number of lessons totalling around two hours, for a group dance when he was a young boy - around 7 years old.
"This wasn't something that subsequently occurred to him to reference as it was so far from anything that would constitute formal dance training."
Fans will have to stay tuned to see how the dancing duo will fair in the nail-biting results show.
