British families looking for an escape this summer and possibly some sun are turning their backs on more expensive UK holiday parks in favour of cheaper chalet breaks in sunny France. With August prices for a family of four costing more than £2,000 at the likes of Centre Parcs, parents, couples, and groups of friends are discovering far more affordable options that offer stunning views and guaranteed sunshine.
One hidden gem is Siblu Villages, a little-known holiday company offering budget-friendly stays at one sun-soaked park in Normandy. Prices come in at over 70% less than the cost of a UK staycation, even after factoring in travel.
This makes it a no-brainer for those seeking great value and warmer weather. Families can enjoy a stay at the four-star Domaine de Litteau holiday village on August, 23 for as little as £468 for a week.
This French holiday spot is helping families save a bundle, even after accounting for additional travel costs. With a 20% promotional discount now available.
Nestled in the heart of the Calvados countryside, Domaine de Litteau borders the picturesque Cerisy forest. The idyllic rural setting is ideal for pony rides and even boasts a mini-farm for the little ones to explore, reports the Manchester Evening News.
With 440 pitches the holiday park is big enough to have everything you need on-site, while still having a friendly feel about it. Families can enjoy the new outdoor pool, the fishing lake, archery and multisport pitch, while the kids will be spoilt for choice with a playground, bouncy castle, BMX track, climbing ropes, a games room and a giant swing.
In contrast to the more expensive Centre Parcs, nearly all activities at Siblu Village Domaine de Litteau are included in guests' stay costs. Every booking comes with a Fun Pass, granting guests full access to the pools, children's clubs, sports pitches and a comprehensive entertainment programme.
Bed linens and towels aren't provided, but can be pre-booked online prior to arrival. There is a nominal fee for external activities such as pony rides and circus shows when they visit
While the accommodation may not be as luxurious as UK forest stays, guests can still enjoy a getaway in a spacious and comfortable caravan. The Essentiel Model caravan offers basic brilliance with well-equipped kitchens, fitted shower rooms and cosy living rooms. The upgraded Bien-etre Model provides a larger living space and accommodates 6-8 people.
Getting thereThe Siblu Village Domaine de Litteau is ideally situated near the ports of Caen and Cherbourg, making it a breeze to hop on a ferry from the UK. Although the journey might be slightly longer than a quick drive to Center Parcs, the potential savings of over £1000 on the caravan holiday will more than compensate for the extra distance.
Brittany Ferries offer return services from the UK to Caen and Cherbourg for around £450 during the summer holidays. Alternatively, travellers can opt to fly to Paris or take the Eurostar, followed by a train ride to either Cherbourg or Caen.
Despite the fact that fares for rail, air and sea travel peak in August, the total cost will still be less than a week at Center Parcs. To assist guests with their travel arrangements for their French caravan holiday, Siblu provides a handy travel guide on their website.
However, those who prefer to stay within the UK may find that their summer holidays quickly become significantly more expensive. We've compared similar holidays at two of the country's most popular holiday parks.

With five UK holiday villages located in the UK, Center Parcs is renowned for its water park nestled in a massive dome and well-designed cycle paths meandering through idyllic forests. However, the reality is that these high-end British holiday villages don't come cheap.
Despite the steep prices, Center Parcs still sells out during the school holidays. Guests can also expect to pay extra if they wish to participate in some of the on-site activities.
If neither of these holiday destinations fit the bill, Haven Holidays is known for stunning coastal views, ideal for nature lovers and classic seaside breaks. Prices start from as little as £179 for a short break in the summer.
Parkdean Resorts offers a similar experience, with 66 coastal parks featuring pools, on-site dining and family-friendly seaside activities. Elsewhere, Butlin's offers a huge range of themed breaks and family holidays across three seaside locations. This summer, Butlin's is offering up to 40% off holidays, serving up more fun for less.
Siblu Villages - Domaine de Litteau has achieved a 4.1 out of five-star rating on TripAdvisor. One vistor said: "We spent an amazing week at Domaine de Litteau campsite! Upon arrival, we were seduced by the cleanliness of the bungalows, which were impeccable and very comfortable. The entertainment on offer was really great, offering a variety of Things to do that delighted the whole family."
Another added: "Great entertainment. Lots of play areas for children. Indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Nothing to be bored with for one week with the children."
A third simply said: "Beautiful. A home from home, have stayed here before and will again."
Not all visitors were quite so impressed. One left a disappointed review, saying: "Usually satisfied with my stay, but this year; swimming pool too cold and poorly supervised, mobile home very small and not very clean, unprotected balcony, little communication regarding the storm."
Despite this, another five-star review added: "The campsite has many activities for children, it is very pleasant to walk around. The swimming pool is covered. The mobile home was very spacious and very well equipped, we lacked nothing"
