It should be a time for solemnity and mournful reflection. Instead, and in scenes so indicative of the times in which we are now living, it almost looks more like a pop concert or a movie star arriving on red carpet at a film premiere. The row in Rome over the disrespect shown by some as they file pass the body of Pope Francis as he is lying in state is understandably heated. How have we come to a place where anyone thinks it's in any way appropriate to stand grinning in front of a recently deceased Pope and smile for a selfie?
When I was young, I remember people would come back from their holidays and show family and friends where they'd been with a slide show. Are these careless dolts going to show the picture saying: "And here's one of me and the kids with the dead Pope?" But then, do you recall the good old days when we would take a picture of our dinner, rush the film down to the chemist and get it developed and then show it to all our friends?
No. Me neither.

Pardon me for a totally self-indulgent few lines on one of the nation's greatest ever footballers who announced last week he will be hanging up his boots at Leicester City. As a fan for more than 50 years - and my blood pressure can testify to that - the team's greatest player ever, Jamie Vardy deserves to be immortalised with a statue outside the King Power stadium.
Farewell Jamie, and thanks beyond mention for the good times.

Back to that Supreme Court ruling concerning the definition of a woman and it was without doubt one of, if not, the biggest stories of the week. Yet it was totally ignored by that supposed "cutting edge satirical" show Have I Got News For You - and we are all well aware why.
This show has all the bite of an aged toothless donkey.

Children who go to bed earlier and get more sleep perform better at school and in exams, a study by so-called experts from Cambridge University and another university in Shanghai have concluded. Really? And we needed "experts" to tell us this?
Don't miss next week's report which will reveal it helps to remember to breathe if you want to stay alive.

It's been fascinating to read about the history of the Express titles as they mark such a significant milestone of it being 125 years since the first daily edition was published. And the Sunday Express has been a part of my life since childhood as it was the only paper my late grandmother took all week. Indeed such was her devotion, the views of the late, great former editor Sir John Junor were treated almost as holy writ!
Thinking of you, grandma.
