was grabbed by a pitch invader before Portugal's Nations League semi-final showdown with Germany on Wednesday evening. The 40-year-old was warming up on the pitch at the Allianz Arena when the supporter made contact with him.

Ronaldo was named in the starting line-up for the crucial Nations League match as he was handed his 220th cap for his country. He started in a front three containing Pedro Neto and Trincao, with Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City ace Bernardo Silva starting in midfield alongside former Wolves man Ruben Neves.

Ronaldo, who if an offer comes his way, would have been mentally preparing himself for the match as he went through his warm-up in Munich, with Portugal eyeing up a showdown with either France or Spain in the final.

But the blockbuster star had his pre-match routine disrupted as a male fan wearing dark grey jeans and a black hoodie approached him.

The pitch invader managed to put his hands around Ronaldo as stewards rushed to the scene. And the man was eventually led away as the former Manchester United striker attempted to calm the situation.

The Nations League encounter was ultimately delayed by 10 minutes due to a storm in the area, which impacted visibility. And ahead of kick-off UEFA released a statement that read: "Kick-off delayed due to adverse weather conditions affecting the warm-up of the teams."

Ronaldo had an opportunity to nudge the visitors into the lead seven minutes into the game as he was picked out by Neto in the penalty area. But his effort was easily saved by Germany keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

And former Manchester City player Andy Hinchcliffe told Prime Video: "Cristiano Ronaldo should be doing better. He gets the ball out of his feet but it's not a clean contact. He scuffs it.

"Jonathan Tah has sold himself badly there. He tried to win a ball he was never going to get to, Pedro Neto rolled him, and Portugal were away."

Portugal reached the Nations League semi-finals after seeing off Denmark over two legs in the quarter-finals in March.

The Euro 2016 champions enjoyed an unbeaten league phase as they recorded two wins over Poland as well as a victory against Croatia and a triumph over Scotland. Roberto Martinez's side eventually finished six points clear at the top of their group, with Croatia finishing in second.

The semi-final was an even affair in the opening period, with neither side able to break the deadlock by the halfway point. Liverpool target Florian Wirtz then openend the scoring for Germany in the early stages of the second half, before Francisco Conceicao drew Portugal level just after the hour mark. Ronaldo then notched his 137th international goal with 22 minutes remaining as the visitors secured a 2-1 win.
