Emmerdale fans 'expose' who John Sugden is working with as he makes chilling phone call

Emmerdale fans are convinced that John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) is working with someone after the killer made a chilling phone call. During Tuesday's (August 19) instalment of the ITV soap, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) were left reeling after learning that police weren't certain that Owen Michaels (Simon Haines) killed Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter). Fans are aware that John murdered Nate last year and pinned by the blame on Owen by faking a suicide note. But after police did more digging into the note, they have become less convinced that Owen is the real killer.

At the end of the episode, Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) apologised to Cain and Tracy for their ongoing ordeal, pointing out that everyone believed it was over. "I just can't believe it's not over. If it wasn't Owen, does that mean the killer's just sat there laughing at us?" Tracy asked. To which Cain responded: "If they are still out there, they better pray the police get to them before I do."

Overhearing the conversation, John made a frantic phone call. To the unknown person at the other end, he said: "Hey, it's me. I could do with some help again. I'll message you the details but there's a loose end that needs tying up, tomorrow."

The mysterious phone call has led fans to speculate that John has had an accomplice the entire time. Sharing their theories on X, one wrote: "So has someone helped John murder Nate? Who was he on the phone too at the end?"

Suggesting who the other person might be, another penned: "Is John talking to the real John sugden? If not, who? So many questions this guy is more complicated than the flipping Spaghetti Junction."

Another joked that he could be on the phone to Paddy's helpline, while a fourth asked: "What is John up to now?"

A fifth viewer echoed: "Who is john calling? Quite a mystery I'm thinking!"

During the episode, John opened up to husband Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) about the stress he has been feeling since Nate's death. This led Aaron to suggest the couple get away from the village.

But the pair later dropped the bombshell that their move was going to be permanent. This was not welcome news to Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), who accused his best friend of running away after sleeping with ex-husband Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley).

Will Aaron really leave the village with the killer?
