Two teenage girls were allegedly sexually assaulted near a field in broad daylight. A man has been arrested following the reported attack at around 12.35pm on Tuesday (August 13).
The girls, both aged 15, were walking on a path in Adderley Green, Stoke-on-Trent, when they were approached by a man. Staffordshire Police alleged that the suspect then sexually assaulted both of them before the victims fled and reported the incident to a member of the public.
A 39-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and possessing a controlled drug of class B. He remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
The force added that the suspect was known to the victims and they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the alleged incident.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "A man has been arrested after two teenagers were sexually assaulted in Stoke-on-Trent.
"It was reported at 12.35pm on Tuesday. Two 15-year-old girls were walking on a path near to a field off Short Bambury Street in Adderley Green when the suspect approached them. He sexually assaulted both of them.
"Both of the girls walked away and told someone who was in the area about what happened. After carrying out enquiries locally, we established that the suspect was known to the victims.
"A 39-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a female and possessing a controlled drug of class B - cannabis. He remains in custody for questioning.
"We're not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation and our enquiries are continuing."
Adderley Green is a small village located just east of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire. According to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics, the village has a population of 2,336 people.
