Tennis star Emma Raducanu once went to great lengths in making amends after falling out with Andy Murray's mum. The two came into conflict after Raducanu's withdrawal from the doubles competition at Wimbledon 2024 inadvertently ended Murray's career at SW24.
The British duo were set to compete alongside one another as a pairing in the grass major. However, with her own singles campaign going to plan, Raducanu bowed out of her doubles commitment citing soreness in her wrist. The development seemed a little too coincidental to some, with many raising suspicions Raducanu was merely prioritising her own tournament. After Murray had already seen his singles quest come to an end, legions of fans considered Raducanu's actions a betrayal.
And it appeared Murray's mother, Judy, was among them after responding to Raducanu. Asked about the withdrawal on social media, Judy described the development as "astonishing" and appeared to show her hand.
She later backtracked on those comments and insisted they were sarcastic. In any case, Raducanu went out of her way to apologise at a later date, though the tennis pair have kept their correspondence over the matter largely private.
"I just hope he doesn't hate me too much," she told reporters in Melbourne in January 2025. "He's someone that I've grown up looking up to, and I don't want any bad blood or harsh feelings with him. I sent him a long message, and he took it really well and responded saying he was disappointed, but he understood. We're fine now.
"We walk past each other and say, 'Hello', 'Well done'. It's obviously really cool seeing him with Novak [Djokovic] here as well. Two great champions, and they're just together; it's pretty awesome.
"Afterwards I sent him a long message basically apologising if I caused any trouble I guess at Wimbledon, that's definitely the last thing I want."
It would take a lot to get on the bad side of Murray, who is usually quite mild-mannered in his work. Raducanu, 22, has trained with the Scot plenty in the past, and it's been suggested Murray could return to coach the British prospect in future.
Murray, 38, has already dipped his toes in the coaching waters after a stint on Novak Djokovic's team. After retiring in August 2024, he worked alongside former rival Djokovic for the first half of his 2025 season, reaching the Australian Open semi-finals and Miami Open final in that time.

The Glaswegian was in the twilight of his career and heading for retirement last year when asked which players he'd most like to coach. And it was a sign, perhaps, that the Wimbledon debacle hadn't ruined their relationship that Raducanu appeared in his preferences.
"Female player - Emma Raducanu," he told the Tennis Channel at the time. "Male player - between [Carlos] Alcaraz, [Stefanos] Tsitsipas and [Jack] Draper."
