Luis Enrique has opened up about Paris Saint-Germain star Gianluigi Donnarumma, amid transfer interest from Manchester United and Manchester City. The goalkeeper was instrumental in the Ligue 1 outfit's recent Champions League win, but looks as if he's set to move on this summer.
Donnarumma's contract is set to expire at the end of next season, with the Italian having been locked in talks with PSG over a new deal. However, on the eve of the new season starting, there are reports that negotiations have broken down and PSG are looking to cash in instead.
The situation developed ahead of this week's UEFA Super Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur when Donnarumma was left out of the PSG matchday squad. During his pre-match media duties, Enrique spoke about the decision, explaining it was "100 per cent" his own choice.
Speaking ahead of the Super Cup, Enrique said: "Donnarumma is out of the squad as it's my own decision. I am 100 per cent responsible". I want a different kind of goalkeeper and I made this decision. Gigio is one of the best GKs in the whole world".
Enrique added: "The life of a top-level footballer, and the same goes for us coaches, is this: it wasn't an easy decision but I take full responsibility for it. On the other hand, if these choices were easy, anyone could make them."
