Nottinghamshire was rocked by not one, but two devastating fires on Saturday evening, as an industrial fire at The Meadows, and a gas explosion in Worksop, saw fire crews inundated with calls from concerned residents.
Eight fire engines were called to tackle a significant incident on Holgate Road in The Meadow just after 8pm, with the city's fire service saying it had received a large number of calls about what it described as an "industrial fire".
Speaking at the time, a Nottingham Police spokesperson said: "We are currently at the scene of large fire in Beauvale Road, The Meadows. Multiple properties have been evacuated and several road closures are in place."
With the blaze sending plumes of smoke into the air and burning the sky a vibrant red, it took fire crews just over two hours to bring the fire under control with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue confirming that the incident had been contained by around 10:30pm.
However, this is far from the only incident to have rocked the county, as a gas explosion in nearby Worksop saw many residents of John Street also evacuated from their homes at around 7:30pm after a large explosion tore a terraced property in half, while also damaging nearby properties.
This incident remains ongoing, with emergency services still on site as they try to account for all residents who may have been present in the area while also investigating how the tragedy unfolded.
