Hollywood singer Rebekah Del Rio has died aged 57. The artist was found dead at her Los Angeles residence on June 23, with the cause of death yet to be determined. Los Angeles Coroner's Office confirmed the news, although additional details are still pending.
Rebekah gained fame with her rendition of Llorando in David Lynch's 2021 film Mulholland Drive. At the time, she had a country record deal in Nashville, Tennessee, due to her recording of Llorando - a Spanish adaptation of Roy Orbison's timeless classic Crying.
The late director, who sadly passed away in January, was so captivated by Rebekah's performance that he recorded it, resulting in the creation of the iconic Club Silencio scene in his movie. Rebekah's untimely death comes 16 years after the loss of her son, Phillip C. DeMars, who died at the age of 23 in 2009.
In tribute, her nephew Dan Coronado issued a statement on Facebook. Accompanied by photographs of Del Rio and her family, he shared: "Just found out my Tia Becky passed away, and we literally just saw her on Father's Day.So grateful the kids got to hear her sing, and also that I didn't listen to her and secretly recorded the moment."
Expressing his gratitude, he said: "Just found out my Tia Becky passed away, and we literally just saw her on Father's Day.So grateful the kids got to hear her sing, and also that I didn't listen to her and secretly recorded the moment."
He went on to say: "Her stage name was Rebekah Del Rio and her and my Uncle Phil came up with that name together. We really were blessed to have a beautiful day with her 2 Sundays ago and I'm so grateful my kids will remember how special it was to hear her God-given talent.
"Her and my cousin Monique can't just sing, they can SING SING if you know what I mean. Her most famous song is titled 'Llorando' which is after Roy Orbison's song 'Crying' which I'm doing right now as I type this out."
In conclusion, he said: "Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift with the world Tia. We love you."
