UPDATE: As you can see from the YouTube embed below, the Sony State of Play event for September 2024 is live. The 30 minute event kicked off with a look at new Atsro Bot content, including five new speedrunning stages with ten new bots to rescue. The free add-on will be available this autumn. Sony followed it up with a new trailer for hand-crafted PSVR 2 game The Midnight Walk, which looks excellent. Souls-like action game Hell is Us received a gameplay trailer, followed by a proper look at the new virtual reality game set in the Metro universe. Metro Awakening was given a November 7 release date for PSVR 2.

ORIGINAL: Confirming earlier rumours, Sony has announced plans to hold a State of Play event for September. The next PlayStation showcase will take place at 11pm BST UK time on the evening of September 24. Running for around 30 minutes, the new State of Play event will give fans a look at upcoming PS4 and PS5 games, as well as a selection of PlayStation VR 2 releases. The good news is that you can watch the entire thing unfold live by checking out the video below. Daily Express will also keep this article updated with all the latest game reveals and announcements, so keep checking back for more information.

The news was announced by Sony on the PlayStation Blog, alongside confirmation of how many games will be shown during the event.

"State of Play is back today, September 24! Tune in live for news and updates on more than 20 upcoming PS5 and PS VR2 games from studios around the world.

"The 30+ minute show begins September 24 at 3pm PT / 6pm ET on YouTube and Twitch, and will be broadcast in English and Japanese."

Similar to the recent PS5 Pro reveal event, Sony also warns streamers to beware potential copyrighted material, such as licensed music.

In terms of new game announcements, fans already have a pretty good idea about two new (sort of) games coming to PS5 in the coming months.

Indeed, if the rumours are to be believed, Sony is getting ready to unveil remastered versions of both Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone.

These games would likely benefit from improved textures and resolutions, performance boosts, ray-tracing support and DualSense functionality.

While I like the idea of a Days Gone with even more zombies on screen at once, I'm with the majority of PlayStation fans, who believe that Bloodborne is more deserving of a remaster.

Speaking of improvements to existing games, don't be surprised if Sony spends a little time going previewing the PS5 Pro and how it will enhance certain titles.

I'm also backing Sony to use the State of Play to reveal the PS Plus Essentials for October, potentially announcing a blockbuster new addition such as The Last of Us 2 or Resident Evil Village.

Speaking of Resident Evil, fans of Capcom's survival horror series may have noticed the game trending on X in recent days.

There are rumours that Capcom will use the State of Play to announce Resident Evil 9, which is tipped to launch in the second half of 2025. Previous rumours have also suggested the original Resident Evil will be remade in the same style as the recent Resident Evil remakes, such as Resi 2, Resi 3 and Resi 4.

Another game rumoured to appear at the State of Play event is Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2 Remastered.

A PlayStation Store listing for the Soul Reaver remasters was spotted earlier this week, which suggests it will be announced during the State of Play event.

Elsewhere, Rocksteady is reportedly working on a new Batman game, following the terrible reception for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. While it's probably too soon for a State of Play reveal, there's always a chance the Caped Crusader could make an appearance.
