star Susie Dent has faced backlash from followers on X after posting a cryptic tweet seemingly aimed at Donald Trump, following his re-election as U.S. President.

Trump emerged victorious in a tense 2024 election, defeating Kamala Harris with 276 electoral votes to her 223, reclaiming the office after a fierce campaign.

Speaking to an elated crowd in Florida, the former Apprentice star declared: "I believe this was the greatest political movement of all time."

Trump continued: "We have a country that needs help very badly," and pledged to "make America great again" by sealing borders and ensuring legal immigration. His campaign secured crucial wins in battleground states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.

Trump's running mate, JD Vance, praised the campaign as "the greatest political comeback" in American history. Vance expressed his gratitude, saying: "I appreciate you allowing me to join you on this incredible journey."

At 78, Trump becomes the oldest president elected and the first since 1892 to win another term after a previous defeat.

Kamala Harris, meanwhile, did not directly address her supporters at Howard University. Her campaign co-chair, Cedric Richmond, urged resilience, telling the crowd: "We will continue overnight to fight to make sure every vote is counted."

In what appeared to be a reaction to the election outcome, Susie Dent tweeted: "Word of the day is 'recrudescence' (17th century): the return of something terrible after a time of reprieve." The post, seemingly a subtle jab at Trump's victory, sparked a flurry of responses from her followers, with some expressing anger at her implied criticism.

One follower retorted: "Grow up, Susie," while another sarcastically asked: "Now what is the return of something positive after 4 terrible years?"

A third user bluntly replied: "What an arrogant b*****d you are," while another penned: "Oooh Susie...you're better than that."

The backlash continued, with one follower posting: "Words of the day 'cry more'," and another writing: "Lol, cry harder. Democracy is a thing, even though you globalists hate it."

Dent wasn't the only public figure to react critically to Trump's victory. Comedian Jason Manford tweeted: "Urgh I knew I'd wake up this morning to that psychopath being declared president! What is wrong with people? God help us all."

Fellow Countdown queen Carol Vorderman also voiced her concerns, posting: "On Looks like Trump will win God help America And the UK too when he introduces tariffs against us very soon Right wingers.. Voted Brexit to cut back UK trading with the Euro market.... & cheered on a man who'll cut back trade with USA...well done. ut....the boats...or should I say the bait."
