Nottingham is home to an impressive network of caves which sit right beneath the city centre. Known as the 'city of caves', visitors can head underground to see the impressive historical structure.
There are more than 800 hidden caves directly under the city centre where people used to live and work. It is an unusual experience to wander down into a cavern from the busy high street pavements of the city above.
This uniqueness makes the trip to this destination one you won't forget - and for less than £10, this is absolutely worth doing.
During World War Two, the caves were used as air raid shelters. As you walk through today, the site has been set up to walk you through the history of the caves since they were first built in ancient times.
In the city above, Nottingham is an underrated place with plenty to do. You can take a walk around the city, stopping off at the popular art exhibition, Nottingham Contemporary. It is an ever-changing gallery with immersive exhibitions which can be visited for free.
If you'd rather see some of the nature the city has to offer, you can visit Wollaton Hall and Deer Park. The hall itself was famously used in Christopher Nolan's Batman film The Dark Knight Rises as Wayne Manor.
The city is also home to one of the oldest pubs in England - Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem. One visitor on Tripadvisor said: "Right under Nottingham castle is the Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem which dates back to 1189. It is an amazing sight and offers meals and drinks. The location is historical and gives insight to how old England used to be.
"We loved the atmosphere and the friendly service and enjoyed the wide range of beers and spirits on offer. The staff love to talk about the history of the area and are happy to tell you if you ask."
