Two travellers who share their adventures on TikTok have revealed the best hidden gems in Europe, having visited 70 cities across the continent. A European getaway is something that many Brits do regularly, whether it is a city with plenty of sunshine or , beautiful architecture and unique culture. There are popular cities in Europe to visit such as , Madrid and Barcelona but there are also more underrated hidden gems that not many people are aware of.
One TikTok account, The Travel Twins, revealed they have visited 70 cities in Europe and they have listed six of them as hidden gems. These cities aren't as visited as others in their respective countries but they may have just as much to offer without the crowds of tourists. According to Axa, a popular travel insurance provider, the most visited city in Europe is Paris, followed by London, Rome, , Amsterdam and Prague. Cities like Budapest, Istanbul and Vienna are also highly popular according to visitor number data, meaning they are full of crowds of tourists.
However, The Travel Twins which has received close to half a million views and listed the best hidden gems they have been to in . The first one they mention is Stavanger in Norway.
This city is located on the southwestern coast of the country and is a nearly seven-hour drive from the capital city, Oslo. Stavanger is a place that many Brits may have never heard of but it has plenty to offer including its scenic old town and beautiful surrounding hikes that have amazing views of the Norwegian landscape.
There are also historic attractions in the city such as Stavanger Cathedral, the Norwegian Petrolium Museum and many Bronze Age Rock Carvings.
The TikTok users also mention Hameln, as an underrated European city to visit. Hameln is located close to the larger city of Hanover and is known as the fairytale city of the Pied Piper who, in folklore, lived here.
The twins' next suggestion is Bern, the capiutal of , followed by , Seville in Spain and Poznan in Poland.
Bern is a great city break for history and architecture lovers as it is home to places like the Cathedral of Bern, Marktgasse and Barenplatz.
Meanwhile, Riga has a similar appeal for history lovers and culture vultures as does Poznan.
Seville has plenty of cultural experiences but it is also a great destination for a . While it is not located close to a beach, there are plenty of hotels and resorts with pools as well as delicious restaurants where you will get traditional local cuisine.
