Lupita Nyong'o, who was last seen in the summer alien invasion film A Quiet Place: Day One has now joined Christopher Nolan's latest project. With her inclusion, she joins Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya and Anne Hathaway in the secretive project. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Nolan penned the script and is directing the project. Set for a release date of July 17, 2026, the film will be distributed by Universal Pictures. In fact, Nolan's latest project remains shrouded in even more mystery than usual, with scant plot details or a clear logline emerging. While various theories have circulated—ranging from a period vampire thriller to a high-octane helicopter action film—insiders insist that none of these speculations have come anywhere close to capturing the true essence of Nolan’s vision.
The film is being produced by Nolan alongside his partner and wife, Emma Thomas, under their Syncopy banner. Production is slated to begin in the first half of 2025. The film not only earned Nolan his first Academy Award for Best Director but also secured him a Best Picture win as a producer, grossing an impressive $976 million worldwide. While Nolan has a go-to group of actors he frequently collaborates with, Oppenheimer star Lupita Nyong’o will be a fresh addition to his ensemble. Though she’s new to Nolan’s world, Nyong’o is no stranger to Universal, having voiced a leading role in The Wild Robot, an adaptation of Peter Brown’s novel by DreamWorks Animation that has been a major box office success, grossing nearly $300 million since its release in September. Nyong’o also starred in the studio's Us, directed by Jordan Peele. An Oscar winner for her role in Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave, Nyong’o is also well-known for her portrayal of Nakia in Black Panther and Wakanda Forever.
