Bengaluru In Double Trouble: First Rains, Now Dengue - Residents 'Living In Fear'

Bengaluru: The tech city of India is contending with the Dengue scare after it witnesses heavy rains over the past few days. The excessive rainfall led to water accumulation in random pits, alongside roads, and low-lying areas. This caused foul smell, mosquito breeding and a threat to public health. With this situation in hand, residents concerned over their well-being are turning up to the doctors to check if their regular fever is Dengue. A resident on X, formerly Twitter, mockingly asked, “Bangalore seems to be in the grip of a dengue epidemic. How is your platelet count?” Another from Bengaluru highlighted that he was living under fear of Dengue while there was a huge power cut in his area.

Worst Affected Areas in BengaluruA report by The New Indian Express claimed the Dr Shivaramakaranth Layout Phase 2, Jakkur, is under the grip of Dengue, and is severely affected by that. It said that residents in the particular area heaved a sigh of relief on Wednesday after the stagnant water in empty sites and drains receded.The situation was similar in another Benagluru locality called Kendriya Vihar Apartment and in Sai Baba Layout in Horamavu where people are hoping for better days. Residents are facing foul smell, water accumulation in temples and other areas, which are still flooded. The waterlogging has made several roads impassable, as rain runoff has caused potholes to resurface. A staff from the Kendriya Vihar Apartment, Ugrappa, noted that the basement still smells bad. The staff urged Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to take immediate action to clear the water, reducing the Dengue scare in the area.
