Hyderabad Yellow Alert: Road Flooded, Traffic Jammed as Heavy Downpour Batters City, More Rain Ahead

Hyderabad: A heavy rainfall battered Hyderabad last night, and is continued to lashing the city on the second day of a yellow alert in place. In its forecast, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that thunderstorms, lightening and squalls will accompany the rain on September 24 and 25. The intense rainfall in the city led to waterlogging at several locations across Hyderabad, with vehicles being stuck in long traffic jams due to the heavy downpour. Residents took to the social media to condemn the public infrastructure that submerged in water within a few minutes of rain. The yellow alert has been issued for 11 districts of Telangana for the next three days.

Hyderabad Weather Forecast This Week From September 24 to 26, the weather will generally remain cloudy. On Tuesday, expect a few spells of rain or thundershowers with temperatures ranging from 23 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius. The met department said the maximum temperature on Tuesday will be 31 degrees Celsius, while the city will woke up to 30 degree Celsius on Wednesday. The following two days (25 and 26 ) will have similar weather conditions, with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers on Wednesday, and light rain or drizzle expected on Thursday. Temperatures will be between 22 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius.From September 27 to 29, the cloudy weather continues. On Friday, the city will experience light rain or drizzle with temperatures fluctuating between 21 degrees Celsius and 31 degrees Celsius. On the September 28 and 29, the sky will remain generally cloudy, with a possibility of rain or thunderstorms, and temperatures reaching up to 32 degrees Celsius.

Traffic Jams, Waterlogging on Hyderabad Streets A social media user on X, formerly Twitter, highlighted the excessive water accumulating on the road of Yakhutpura Ganga nagar area in Hyderabad, and said, "It was an insane downpour, if rain had lasted more 20 mins 100% Yakhutpura ganga nagar would have submerged."

Due to the heavy rain causing disruption to the vehicle flow, the Hyderabad Traffic Police on Monday alerted commuters of jammed routes. It said, "Due to rain, heavy flow of traffic and peak hours, movement of vehicles is slow from Malakpet Metro Station, Racecourse Road, Yashoda Hospital, Nalgonda X Roads, RUB towards Chaderghat rotary."
