Pune: The Pune Metro has announced a temporary suspension of services after 6 PM on Friday, November 1, in observance of Lakshmi Puja. Regular operations will resume the following morning, and officials are advising passengers to plan their travel accordingly.The announcement was shared on the social media platform X, stating, “Please pay attention!! Important notice for passengers of Pune Metro. On the occasion of Lakshmi Puja on Friday, November 1, 2024, Pune Metro service will be available from 6 AM to 6 PM. Metro services will be closed between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM. From Saturday, November 2, 2024, Pune Metro services will resume as usual from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. It will continue smoothly till midnight. Sorry for the inconvenience.''
This decision has faced criticism both online and offline, with many passengers expressing their dissatisfaction in response to the Metro's post. Daily commuters raised concerns about the inconvenience this suspension will cause for travellers during the festive evening.Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one user wrote, ''Service shutdown is not acceptable. Its not a private service but public built by public money. Like this every other festival you will shutdown services.'' ''Public transport shall be available. Reduce frequency. It’s not private property to close on short notice,'' wrote another user. By expressing dissatisfaction, a third user wrote,''What a waste of public service...how can a public transport system halt like those...unless it's emergency shut down...''
