Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has assumed responsibility for the 24x7 water supply system and infrastructure projects in the Bopal and Ghuma areas, which were previously managed by the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda).
Auda completed the water supply project in Bopal in July 2022 at a cost of Rs 68.88 crore and in Ghuma at Rs 84.71 crore. As these areas are now within the AMC's jurisdiction, the water and sewerage committee approved a proposal on Monday to transfer the project's responsibility to the AMC. The corporation will now manage all infrastructure maintenance, new water connections, and water supply in these areas.
During the same meeting, the committee also approved a Rs 31.56 crore proposal to lay 4.6km of stormwater lines from Butbhavani Temple in Vejalpur to Sonal Cinema and from Makarba police headquarters to the Sabarmati. This 18-month project aims to resolve waterlogging issues in these areas.
Additionally, the committee approved a revised tender for the redevelopment of Vastrapur lake, increasing the project cost from Rs 5.15 crore to Rs 10.12 crore. A proposal for the development of Ropda Lake in the Sarkhej area for Rs 8.18 crore was also approved. Furthermore, the operation and maintenance of a stormwater pumping station for rainwater drainage at the Vande Mataram underpass in the Chandlodia area received approval.
