Silchar: A polling officer for the May 2 panchayat elections succumbed to a severe heart attack on Thursday morning. The incident occurred just before he was set to collect election materials from the ISBT in Silchar, reports BB Goswami.
The deceased has been identified as Nurul Haque Choudhury (55). Choudhury, who lived in Meherpur, Silchar, served as a rural health inspector and was assigned to a polling station in Nagdhigram, Sonai. According to witnesses, he began experiencing discomfort before his scheduled departure. His family members and neighbours immediately transported him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). However, the medical team pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Locals remember him as a committed public servant.
