Varanasi: The bodies of a teenage couple were found hanging from a tree near Obra Dam in Chopan police station area of Sonbhadra district on Tuesday evening.
The incident came to fore when some villagers went to collect wood near Obra Dam on Tuesday afternoon and found the bodies a 19-year-old boy and a 18-year-old girl hanging from a tree. Upon receiving information, a police team led by Charu CO Dwivedi and Chopan police station officer Vijay Kumar Chaurasia reached the spot. After collection of evidence from the site, the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.
Sonbhadra ASP (operation) Kalu Singh said following interrogation of families of both the deceased, it is suspected that the duo died by suicide due to a dispute over their love affair. Further investigation is underway, he added.
During initial police investigation, it came to light that houses of both the deceased are aproximately two hundred metres away from the incident site. The boy's family mentioned that Ashok left the house after breakfast around 11am and did not return home. Meanwhile, the villagers claimed that no one was aware of their relationship.
This is the second such incident reported in the district in the past four days. Earlier on May 9, a 17-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl from Murela in Rampur Barkonia of the district were found hanging.
